How to Use This Weight & Mass Converter

Converting weight takes about two seconds:

  1. Enter a value in the "Value" field — for example, 70 for 70 kg.
  2. Pick the source unit from the first dropdown (e.g., Kilograms).
  3. Pick the target unit from the second dropdown (e.g., Pounds).
  4. Read the result — the green box updates live as you type.
  5. Check the All Units panel for the same value in all 9 units at once.

Click any result in the All Units panel to copy that specific value. Click the main result box to copy the primary conversion. Use Export CSV to save the current conversion, or Share to generate a link that pre-fills all values.

💡 Pro tip: Body weight conversions are the most common use case. Remember these anchors: 1 kg ≈ 2.2 lb, 1 stone = 14 lb ≈ 6.35 kg, and a "healthy" BMI range for adults is roughly 18.5–24.9 (weight in kg divided by height in meters squared).

Common Uses of a Weight Converter

  • Body weight tracking. Convert between kg, lb, and stone for fitness apps, doctor visits, or international travel.
  • Cooking and baking. Convert between grams, ounces, and pounds for recipes from different countries.
  • Postal and shipping. Carriers quote rates in kg, lb, or oz, depending on the country of origin.
  • Fitness and weightlifting. Plates and dumbbells are labeled in kg or lb. Adding a "45 lb plate" on each side means 40.8 kg total.
  • Freight and logistics. Ocean freight uses metric tons, US freight uses short tons — this matters for cost quotes.
  • Science and engineering. Lab experiments use grams and milligrams; structural calculations may use metric tons.
  • Astronomy. Star and black hole masses are expressed in solar masses — 1 ☉ ≈ 2 × 10³⁰ kg.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Confusing mass and weight. Mass is the amount of matter (kg, lb), while weight is the force gravity exerts on that mass (newtons, pound-force). Everyday scales measure weight but display mass in kg or lb.
  • Mixing US and UK tons. A US short ton is 2,000 lb; a UK long ton is 2,240 lb; a metric tonne is 2,204.62 lb. Always confirm which "ton" is meant.
  • Using troy ounces for food. Troy ounces are for precious metals (31.10 g); avoirdupois ounces for food (28.35 g). Never swap them in a recipe or metal-weight calculation.
  • Assuming lb and oz are interchangeable with metric. A "1 lb" package is 16 oz but only 453.6 g. Always convert to a common unit before adding or comparing.
  • Rounding too early. Small rounding errors compound across long formulas. Our converter keeps full precision through the calculation and only rounds for display.

Why We Built This Tool

Weight conversions come up constantly — dieting, shipping, cooking, buying groceries abroad, calibrating lab equipment, or just reading a package label. Most online converters either force you to reload the page, use imprecise factors, or bury the answer in ads.

Ours runs entirely in your browser, uses exact international conversion factors (1 lb = 453.59237 g exactly, not a rounded approximation), and works offline once loaded. It also lets you export a CSV or share a link that pre-fills the values. If you spot a bug, or you'd like us to add a unit — like pennyweights, carats, or the troy pound — drop us a note using the contact link below.

Every conversion factor on this page was verified against the NIST Handbook 44 (US) and the UK Weights and Measures Act. Solar mass reference uses the IAU 2015 Resolution B3 nominal value. If you spot an error, or you'd like a new unit added, please send us the details so we can fix it. Last reviewed: October 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Enter the value in kilograms, select "Kilograms (kg)" as the source, and "Pounds (lb)" as the target. The result appears instantly. The exact conversion factor is 1 kg = 2.2046226218 lb. Our converter preserves full precision and shows both the decimal and readable formats.
A stone (st) is a unit of weight equal to 14 pounds or 6.35 kilograms, commonly used in the UK and Ireland for body weight. It is also used informally in some other Commonwealth countries. To convert body weight in kg to stone, divide by 6.35029.
Yes, we use precise international conversion factors — for example, 1 lb = 453.59237 g exactly, and 1 oz = 28.349523125 g exactly. Results keep full precision through the calculation and are rounded only for display, so you can convert back and forth without losing accuracy.
One ounce equals exactly 28.349523125 grams (avoirdupois ounce, the standard used for most everyday measurements). For troy ounces — used for precious metals — the value is different: 1 troy oz = 31.1034768 g. Our converter uses the avoirdupois ounce by default.
A metric ton (t, also called a tonne) equals exactly 1,000 kilograms or 2,204.62 pounds. A US (short) ton equals 2,000 pounds or 907.18474 kilograms — about 10% less than a metric ton. A UK (long) ton equals 2,240 pounds, about 12% more than a metric ton.
Multiply the pound value by 0.45359237 to get kilograms. For example, 150 lb × 0.45359237 = 68.04 kg. To go the other way, multiply kilograms by 2.2046226218. Our converter handles this automatically and shows both the decimal and human-readable formats.
A solar mass (☉) is the mass of the Sun, equal to approximately 1.989 × 10³⁰ kilograms (1.989 × 10³³ grams). Astronomers use solar masses to describe stars, black holes, and galaxies — a supermassive black hole can be millions or billions of solar masses. Our converter supports solar masses for scientific calculations.
The converter runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript, so no values are ever transmitted or stored on a server. It works fully offline once the page has loaded, and all conversions use high-precision factors for accuracy. You can also export your conversions as CSV or share a link with the values pre-filled.
