PayPal Fees in 2026 — Complete Reference

PayPal revised its commercial rates in mid-2026. Here's exactly what you pay depending on payment type and cross-border status.

Pro Tip: If you invoice under $10 per transaction, switch to PayPal Micropayments (4.99% + $0.09). The lower fixed fee saves you money below roughly the $10 threshold. For everything above $10, standard commercial rates are cheaper.

PayPal Optimization — FAQ

PayPal's exchange rate includes a 3–4% markup above the mid-market rate. This spread is built into the rate itself — it is not shown as a separate line item. To avoid it, withdraw to a USD-capable account (like Wise or Payoneer) and convert elsewhere. On a $1,000 withdrawal, this markup costs you $30–$40.
Domestic US goods-and-services payments are 2.99% + fixed fee. Cross-border payments add 1.5%, totaling 4.49% + fixed. PayPal Checkout is 3.49% + fixed domestically, or 4.99% with the international surcharge. PayPal's official fee table (updated June 29, 2026) confirms these rates.
The fixed fee depends on the currency received. For USD it's $0.49; for EUR ~€0.39; for GBP ~£0.39; for AUD ~A$0.59. Adjust the "Fixed Fee" field if you're invoicing in a different currency.
Request payments in your local currency to avoid the FX spread. Use Wise or Payoneer as an intermediary USD account. For small transactions under $10, switch to Micropayments (4.99% + $0.09). Compare with Stripe, Wise, or direct bank transfer for better rates on large invoices.

No. SkillsInsider is an independent utility platform. We provide transparency tools for freelancers. All calculations are estimates based on PayPal's published 2026 rates — final amounts may vary slightly. Always trust the confirmation screen inside the PayPal dashboard.
PayPal Micropayments is 4.99% + $0.09 per transaction. It's designed for small transactions where the standard $0.49 fixed fee would eat too much of the sale. It's usually worth switching to below roughly $10 per transaction.
We fetch mid-market rates from a public exchange rate API when you first open the page. For the most current rate, refresh the page or change the currency pair — the calculator will re-fetch automatically. PayPal's own rate will be 3–4% worse than this mid-market rate.
