Your tasks live only in this browser. To move them to another device, keep a permanent copy, or share them with someone, use the options below.

โš ๏ธ Important. Because tasks are stored locally, clearing your browser cache or using a different browser will lose them. Export a JSON backup regularly if the list matters to you.

Export

Import

Existing tasks will be merged with the import. Tasks with matching IDs are kept from the backup.

Backup preview

Add some tasks to see a preview of your backup file.

Danger zone

This will permanently delete every task. There is no undo.

๐Ÿ“‹ What this to-do list actually does

This is a straightforward task manager that runs entirely in your browser. You add tasks, set priorities, attach due dates, and organise them by category. Everything saves to your own device's storage โ€” the same mechanism your browser uses for saved passwords and site settings. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

That means three things you might not be used to:

For most people, that trade-off is worth it. You get a fast, private tool that works offline. The only cost is that you need to export a backup if you want to use the same list on your phone and your laptop.

โœ๏ธ How to use it

  1. Add a task. Type what needs doing into the top field, then choose a category, a priority, and optionally a due date. Press Enter or click Add Task.
  2. Use quick dates. The Today, Tomorrow, and +7 days buttons save you from opening the calendar picker for common cases.
  3. Filter the view. The filter pills above the list let you see only active tasks, only tasks due today, only overdue items, only high priority, or everything.
  4. Complete a task. Click the checkbox on the left of any task. It moves to the Completed tab and the progress bar updates.
  5. Restore or delete. Open the Completed tab to restore a task back to active. Delete tasks permanently with the trash icon on any item.
  6. Back up when it matters. Use the Backup tab to export a JSON file. If your browser data is ever cleared, you can import that file to get your tasks back.
๐Ÿ’ก The undo bar saves you. If you delete a task by accident, a bar appears at the bottom of the screen for six seconds. Click Undo to bring the task back. This works for single deletes and for the "Clear completed" action.

๐ŸŽฏ Getting real value from a to-do list

Most people who try a to-do list give up within a week. That is not because to-do lists do not work โ€” it is because they used them wrong. Three things make the difference.

Keep it short

A list with fifty items is a list you will ignore. The research on this is consistent: people are more productive with five to seven items per day than with twenty. If your list is longer than that, split it. Some tasks belong on a "someday" list, not your active list.

Write tasks, not topics

"Website" is a topic. "Write the About page copy" is a task. Topic entries rot in your list because there is no clear completion state. Task entries get done because you know exactly what "done" means.

Attach a due date to anything that actually has one

A task with no deadline is a wish. Tasks with real due dates โ€” a bill that is due on the 15th, a meeting on Thursday, a form that expires at the end of the month โ€” belong with dates. The overdue highlighting on this tool makes it obvious what you have missed.

Review it once a day

A to-do list that only gets opened once a week is really just a wish list. Five minutes in the morning to pick your top three tasks, and five minutes in the evening to close things out. That is enough.

๐Ÿ”’ Your privacy and how tasks are stored

Everything stays on your device. Tasks are stored in your browser's localStorage, a small database that every browser provides for each website. The data never leaves your computer, tablet or phone. There is no SkillsInsider server involved.

No account, no tracking. We do not know how many tasks you have, what they say, or whether you ever completed them. Nothing is logged. Nothing is shared.

You can delete everything. The Backup tab has a "Delete everything" button. Or you can clear your browser's site data for this page. Either way, the tasks are gone permanently and cannot be recovered โ€” so export a backup first if you are not sure.

Cookies and advertising. Advertising and analytics cookies are switched off by default. They only turn on if you press Accept all, or select them individually under Manage preferences. You can change your choice at any time from the Cookie Policy page. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

He built this to-do list after getting tired of task apps that required an account before you could add a single item, or that mixed your personal tasks with newsletter signups and paid upgrade nudges. This version does one thing: it stores your tasks locally and gets out of the way. He maintains the SkillsInsider productivity toolset.

โ“ Frequently asked questions

Where are my tasks stored?

In your browser's localStorage, on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to a server. If you clear your browser data or use a different browser, your tasks will not be there. Use the Backup tab to export a JSON file if you want a permanent copy.

Do tasks sync between my phone and my laptop?

No. This is a local-first tool, so each device has its own task list. To move tasks between devices, export a JSON backup from one device and import it on the other using the Backup tab. Some people keep the backup file in a cloud folder for automatic sync.

What happens if I accidentally delete a task?

A small Undo bar appears at the bottom of the screen for six seconds after any delete or clear action. Click Undo to restore everything that was removed. After six seconds, the deletion is permanent. Ctrl+Z also triggers undo while the bar is visible.

How does overdue highlighting work?

If a task has a due date that has already passed and is still marked incomplete, it appears with a red border and an Overdue badge. This is a visual nudge, not a notification. The task stays in your list until you complete or delete it.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, everything runs in your browser. You can disconnect from the internet and continue adding, completing and deleting tasks. When you open the page again, your tasks will still be there. The only thing you cannot do offline is load the page itself for the first time.

Can I share my task list with someone else?

Yes. Use the Backup tab to export as JSON or plain text, then send the file or paste the text to the other person. They can import the JSON on the same page. There is no live collaboration feature โ€” this is a single-user tool.

Is there a limit on how many tasks I can add?

Practically, no. Browsers allow roughly 5 to 10 MB of localStorage per domain, which is thousands of tasks. For a realistic personal to-do list, you will never hit the limit. The UI stays responsive up to several hundred tasks.

Why not just use a cloud task app?

Cloud task apps are excellent for people who want sync, collaboration and mobile apps. This tool is for people who want something simpler: no account, no emails, no upsells, no uncertainty about who can see their tasks. If you want cloud sync, use a cloud app. If you want a private local list, use this.
