The Shift to Answer Engines
Traditional SEO focuses on ranking a URL in a list of links. AI SEO (or GEO - Generative Engine Optimization) focuses on being the answer. If a user asks "What is the best CRM?", they might only read the AI's generated summary, never clicking a link.
Citations vs. Mentions
A mention means the AI names your brand in the text. A citation means the AI provides a direct link to your domain as a source. Citations are significantly more valuable because they drive direct traffic.
Competitor Share of Voice
If the AI mentions your competitor 5 times and your brand 0 times, your competitor has a 100% share of voice. This tool calculates the share of voice based on mention frequency.
How to Use the AI Visibility Tracker
More and more people ask AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity for advice instead of scrolling through Google.
This tool answers one simple question: when someone asks an AI about your topic, does your brand come up?
You don’t need any technical skills. It takes about a minute.
Before you start
Have these three things ready:
- Your brand name. Write it the way people say it, for example “Canva”, not “Canva Pty Ltd”.
- Your competitors (optional). A few names separated by commas, like Pixlr, Fotor. This lets you see who the AI prefers.
- A real question. Something a customer would actually type, like “what is the best free photo editor?”
Option 1: Let the tool ask the AI for you (Automated)
- Stay on the “Automated (Gemini)” tab. It is selected when you arrive.
- Type your brand name in the first box.
- Add your competitors in the second box, separated by commas. You can leave this empty.
- Write the question a customer would ask in the “Search Prompt” box.
- Click “Generate & Analyze”. After a few seconds you will see the AI’s answer and your results underneath.
Option 2: Check an answer you already have (Manual)
Handy if you want to test ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude or any other AI, not just Gemini.
- Ask your question in the AI tool you want to test.
- Copy the full answer it gives you.
- Open the “Manual Input” tab here and fill in your brand name and competitors.
- Paste the answer into the big box and click “Analyze Visibility”.
Good to know: in Manual mode everything happens in your browser. In Automated mode, only your question is sent to Google’s Gemini to get an answer. Your brand name and competitors stay on your device.
How to read your results
Visibility Score
A number from 0 to 100. Higher is better. 0 means the AI didn’t mention you at all.
Brand Mentions
How many times the AI wrote your brand name. More mentions means the AI sees you as more relevant.
Domain Cited?
“Yes” means the AI included a link or web address for your site. This is the most valuable result because it can send real visitors.
Sentiment
Whether the AI talks about you in a positive, neutral or negative way. It shows N/A if you weren’t mentioned.
Share of Voice
Your slice of the conversation compared with your competitors. If the AI names a rival five times and you zero times, they own the answer.
How the score is worked out: up to 50 points for being mentioned (more mentions, more points),
30 points if your website is cited, and up to 20 points for a positive tone.
Tips for better results
- Ask questions the way customers do. “Best free pdf editor” beats a long, formal sentence.
- Try several different questions. AI answers change from question to question, so test 3 to 5 and look at the pattern.
- Run the same question twice. AI answers can vary a little each time, so don’t panic over one result.
- Re-check once a month. It is a good way to see whether your content and PR work is paying off.
- Not showing up? Look at which competitors the AI names, then study the pages and reviews that talk about them.
Common questions
Why is my score 0?
The AI didn’t name your brand in that answer. This is normal for smaller or newer brands. Try a question closer to what you actually do, or check that your brand name is spelled the way people write it.
Why does it say “Domain Cited: No” even when I’m mentioned?
Most AI answers name brands without giving links. Being mentioned is still a good sign. Links show up more often in AI tools that search the web live.
Why does the sentiment say N/A?
Sentiment is only judged on sentences that contain your brand. If you weren’t mentioned, there is nothing to judge.
I got a “Too many requests” message. What now?
To keep the tool free for everyone, there is a short limit on how many checks you can run in a few minutes. Wait about ten minutes and try again, or use Manual mode, which has no limit.
Does this show what ChatGPT says?
Automated mode uses Google’s Gemini. To check ChatGPT, Perplexity or others, copy their answer and paste it into Manual mode.
Is the tool free?
Yes, it is completely free and you don’t need to create an account.
