Why use an SSL Checker?

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is the backbone of trust on the internet. It encrypts the data exchanged between a user's browser and your web server, preventing eavesdropping, tampering, and forgery. Modern browsers (like Chrome and Safari) flag websites without a valid SSL certificate as "Not Secure," which instantly drives visitors away and harms your SEO ranking.

Our free SSL Checker allows you to:

  • Verify Expiry Dates: Never let a certificate expire and break your site. We show you exactly how many days are left.
  • Inspect the Chain: Ensure your server is serving the full intermediate chain, which is required for mobile devices to trust your site.
  • Check the Issuer: Confirm if the certificate is self-signed (untrusted) or issued by a legitimate Certificate Authority (CA) like Let's Encrypt, DigiCert, or Google Trust Services.

Frequently Asked Questions

It connects to the domain over port 443, retrieves the SSL/TLS certificate, and extracts its details. You'll see the issuer, expiry date, certificate chain, key type, subject alternative names, and basic protocol details.

The tool uses a secure server-side cURL request (via our PHP proxy) to connect to the target domain. It captures the SSL handshake data without downloading the page content, ensuring a fast and accurate check.

The tool will still display the certificate details, but it will show a red warning indicating that the certificate is not trusted or has expired. This is incredibly useful for debugging staging environments or internal servers.

Some web servers are misconfigured and don't send the full certificate chain during the TLS handshake. If intermediate certificates are missing, browsers (especially on mobile) may show a warning. You'll need to concatenate the intermediate certificates to your server's SSL bundle.
